The drive, broken down

1. Days 1-2: Sydney to Port Stephens or Myall Lakes210-280 km · 3-4 hrs

   Easy first leg: leave Sydney, learn the van, book a powered site or national park camp before dark.

2. Days 3-4: Port Stephens to Coffs Coast390 km · 5 hrs

   Break it at Crescent Head, South West Rocks or Nambucca if surf and headlands are the priority.

3. Days 5-6: Coffs Coast to Byron, Ballina or Brisbane320-390 km · 4-5 hrs 30

   Popular coast means book ahead; Byron is not where you test the free-camping laws.

4. Days 7-9: Brisbane or Noosa to Hervey Bay / Bundaberg300-360 km · 4-5 hrs

   Good reset zone for laundry, groceries, LPG swap and planning any K'gari or turtle-season side trip.

5. Days 10-12: Bundaberg to Rockhampton and Mackay650 km · 8 hrs total

   Split this in two; northbound distances stretch and fatigue sneaks up after lunch.

6. Days 13-15: Mackay to Airlie Beach and Townsville390 km · 5 hrs

   Add a Whitsundays buffer day if reef weather matters more than sticking to the spreadsheet.
