Perth to the Sunshine Coast is roughly 4,350–4,500 km depending on your exact coastal finish and Brisbane bypass choices. On paper, that is about 50–55 hours of driving. In a campervan, with fuel stops, dump points, lunch, roadworks and the occasional grey nomad convoy doing 87 km/h, it is not a five-day dash unless you enjoy muttering at the steering wheel.

Potable water is not always beside the dump point; if it is not clearly marked drinking water, do not put it in your fresh tank.

• Good reset towns: Kalgoorlie, Ceduna, Port Augusta, Broken Hill, Cobar and Moree.
• Good free-camp style stops: Bunda Cliffs, Kimba RV areas and some council-approved inland rest areas.
• Bad idea: emptying grey water in a roadside drain or washing dishes at a dump point tap.

National parks in WA, SA, NSW and Queensland generally require booking or vehicle/camping fees, even for unpowered sites. Free camping is not a national right; it is legal only where local signs and rules allow it. Get that wrong near beach towns and the fine can be a very unromantic $300-ish souvenir.
