The drive, broken down

1. Day 1: Cairns pick-up to Palm Cove or Trinity Beach25 km · 35 min

   An easy first night with supermarkets, powered sites and no heroic reversing in the dark.

2. Day 2: Northern beaches to Port Douglas45-70 km · 1-1.5 hrs

   Follow the Captain Cook Highway slowly; lookout stops turn a short drive into a proper morning.

3. Day 3: Port Douglas to Daintree and Cape Tribulation85 km · 2 hrs plus ferry

   Cross the Daintree River ferry, book camping ahead and stop before the 4WD-only Bloomfield Track.

4. Day 4: Daintree to Atherton Tablelands via Mossman and Mareeba170 km · 3 hrs

   Climb out of the humid coast into cooler dairy country, coffee stops and easier evening temperatures.

5. Day 5: Tablelands waterfall loop90-120 km · 2-3 hrs

   Base near Yungaburra or Atherton for Lake Eacham, Millaa Millaa Falls and short rainforest walks.

6. Day 6: Atherton Tablelands to Mission Beach185 km · 3 hrs

   Drop back to the coast through cane country; watch for cassowary signs and wet roads.

7. Day 7: Mission Beach to Cairns via Babinda140 km · 2 hrs

   Use Babinda Boulders as a final swim stop if conditions are safe, then return the van clean and fuelled.
